International Scholars Institute

The International Scholars Institute (ISI) convenes an international cohort of students for a 2-week summer institute.  Rising 11th and 12th grade students as well as college Sophomores and Juniors from the United States and South Africa will engage in a curriculum developed to accelerate their success academically and professionally. Throughout the fellowship, students will acquire new skills across the leadership, entrepreneurship, economics, politics, policy, intercultural competence, and social justice domains.

Faculty from universities and community-based organizations support ISI as lecturers, thought leaders, and mentors.  Students will spend their first week taking courses in the United States and will participate in a 1-week immersion experience to South Africa where they will be required to develop a policy or business solution for a current social justice or educational issue.  This fellowship is open to all learners, and scholarships will be offered based upon need, academic merit, and funding.  ISI is designed to expose high school and collegiate students (including those of color and from low-income backgrounds) to an international community of learners, to ignite their commitment to solve global and complex issues, and to shepherd their pathways toward college and high-impact employment opportunities.

As the world continues to evolve and nations become increasingly interconnected, the need for leaders who understand the complexities of globalization is all the more paramount.  Given such, we have initiated efforts to scale this program to sites in Asia, South America, Europe, and the Middle East in future years.  ISI Fellows will participate in this world-class experience to build international relationships with their peers, university academicians, politicians, and business leaders.  More importantly, they will receive the training and support necessary to be the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow in both academic and professional settings.

The application deadline for the 2023 ISI Fellowship is TBA.  Please direct any questions you may have about the program or application process to info@equityined.org.
